GET TO KNOW
What’s going on here?
Jungle Physicians is a music project with forays into new media and events.
Why “Jungle Physicians”?
I liked the term “Jungle Physician” when I read it in a translation of the ashtanga yoga opening mantra. Found it intriguing – words you wouldn’t normally put together, like “Love & Rockets”.
I like how it hints at consciousness research, integrative medicine, yoga as a kind of shamanism. But like all band names, I trust it’s taking on new implications from the music.
Who?
Andy Warren and friends.

For several years I worked at a unique music shop in
Vancouver called Highlife World Music.
Here are 6 highlights and influences from my time there:
Thievery Corporation, Michael Franti, owners Kevin & Dennis,
co-workers Denise & Nils (not pictured) :

What kind?
The new cycle of songs and production style might be described as:
atmospheric groove, or maybe psychedelic soul rock?
I like the way Johnny Marr defines “folk” music in this interview.
Influences?
Some, and in no order: Bill Withers, The Police, Sade, The Beatles, Macy Gray, Love & Rockets, The Cure, Peter Gabriel, George Gershwin, Zero 7, 1 Giant Leap, Suba, Antonio Carlos Jobim, blueberries, arugula, matcha tea…
Favourite Under-appreciated Film?
That’d be Buckaroo Banzai. Can we please have a sequel?
